What Is a Business Broker?

When asked what I do for a living, oftentimes people don’t fully understand what it means to be a “business broker.” They may relate it to some general real estate or business concepts, but they don’t have a full grasp of what a business broker is – so let me help define it:

Put simply, a business broker helps bring buyers and sellers together to negotiate mutually beneficial sales agreements. The ultimate goal, of course, is a successful business sale for one and a successful purchase for the other.

Sound simple? Well, yes and no. Yes, the general concept of bringing a buyer of a small business and a seller of a small business together is straightforward. But the process itself is not effortless and can be complicated. That’s where a business broker really gives value to his or her clients.
